Start here: plan your coffee bar in 4 steps

Whether you have a 2-foot strip of counter or a whole wall, the order is the same: pick the spot, pick the furniture, stock it, style it. Follow the steps, or jump to the one you're stuck on.

Step 1: Pick your spot

Look for a spot near an outlet, at least 15 inches deep, and away from the stove. A counter end, a corner, a cart or a cabinet all work.

Step 2: Choose furniture that fits

Measure width, depth and height before you shop. Renting? A rolling cart or a freestanding cabinet moves with you.

Step 3: Stock the essentials (and pick a machine)

Start with what you'll use every morning. Add the rest later.

Step 4: Style it

A tray, matching jars, one sign. That's the whole trick.
